I find it extremely interesting that after she had her fun ripping into the puer aeternus type (competently I must say and she must be commended for that, but I felt she did it with too big a smirk), she seemed to go really easy on the IGNOBLE and DISGRACEFUL mother devouring her son, while her own mother was a brute. When Hannah asked Jung why he was so keen on putting them together, Jung replied that he wanted von Franz "to see that not all women are such brutes as her mother" Wiki: "Jung encouraged von Franz to live with fellow Jungian analyst Barbara Hannah, who was 23 years older than she was. Give me a break ! Furthermore, Marie-Louise Von Franz apparently had a brutal mother: ![]() Now my central point: Have you noticed how so little of the "blame" is put on the mother in the book? Actually, the mother is barely even talked about except here and there ! Yet the Mother Complex is supposed to be central to the whole thing. And I undertand that the puer is responsible to execute his solution, but that's not exactly the same as being responsible for the onset of the condition now is it? And furthermore I understand that part of the solution is some sort of "tough love", but I felt that her smirk and ridiculing went beyond the necessary "tough love" inherent in the remedy. Is the puer responsible for his condition or not? If he is then just flat out say it. The same you see everywhere in society aimed at the puer type. I can sense her guilty pleasure in ridiculing them, a smirk of sort. I feel like a lot of the "blame" is put on the Puer Aeternus, and very little sympathy is shown to the individual suffering this condition.
